The search for Greta Leeb from Austria - Part II

Article Image

In the previous blog I introduced you to Greta Leeb, on the photo accompanied by the 2 sisters Grietje and Catharina Konijn, from the Dutch village of Hem. Let me now introduce you to the family that Greta stayed with; the parents and siblings of Grietje and Catharina.

On this family photo, taken around 1904, the family is not yet complete: Catharine had not yet been born, nor had her brother Willem. Starting from the left we see Jaap (1896) Dorus (1890) father Dirk (1865) Jansje (1887) mother Elisabeth (1866) Jan (1892) and Grietje (1900). In the search for Greta Leeb I will also tell a little bit (that what I know) about the lives of these family members.

Why did I start this search for Greta, you might wonder. No special reason really, other than that she remained a mystery on the photo in my great-aunts cigar box for quite some years. The young girl in the middle became my great-grandmother from paternal side. Only she and her brother Dorus had offspring. I have not yet managed to find living relatives of Dorus. On the other hand, the offspring from Jansje is enormous: she married Gerrit Dudink (1887) and had many children of whom most of them had large families.

Let's get back to Greta in the next blog; searches in archives generated only little information but I found a small trace of the archive of "Holland Kinder" at the International Institute of Social History. By the way, at this moment of writing I have no clue what I will (not..) find.
